One of the first albums I ever bought myself. I got it on cassette in Uckfield, East Sussex while visiting our granny when I was about ten years old. I bought it for Stairway To Heaven and was confused because the album didn't seem to have a name. I later found out it did and that Stairway was not the standout track.

Mowing lawns. Many, many hours spent mowing lawns during my teens. One of the best smells in the world is fresh cut grass with a hint of petrol. I think Wowee Zowee was the second Pavement album I owned after their debut Slanted and Enchanted (thanks Jonny).

Walking around New Paltz in 1998. This is where I went to university and I have distinct memories of walking through town, in the dusk, in autumn with this playing loud in through my walkman.

‘This is the track that would be ‘saved from the waves’.’

A simple and beautiful song. I adore Chan Marshall's entire catalogue.

Jonny, I have you to thank for intoducing me to Moon Pix as part of a care package that you sent me (a mix-tape, ramen noodles, a ramen bowl, and I think a copy of The Dishwasher zine).

This was the first album that Sophie and I found in common. We found it at the same time and still listen to it often.

Neil Young removed himself from Spotify so this track isn't in the playlist.

One of These Days’: A calming song for Percy. Many a drive and many a night have been spent listening to this on repeat. It sits at the beginning of a playlist called Percy Sleeps which includes Cat Power’s cover of Satisfaction by The Rolling Stones, West Palm Beach by Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, and Crosses by José González.

‘(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction’, Cat Power’s cover of the classic Rolling Stones song. Chosen for the same reasons as it has calmed Percy (and us) on many, many occasions.

Minimal. A reminder of creating something wonderful out just the right ingrediants.

I like the sentiment of the lyrics. Though I would change some of the words to be less of a command, and more of a mutually affectionate conversation. For instance, at 00:29 I would change "I'd expect a whole lot of love out of you" to "I'd accept a whole lot of love out of you".

This song builds. It does this steadily and tenderly.

This is the sort of electronica that I adore. This makes me feel like moving and not much music does that for me. Not that you'll likely see me dancing though.

An extension of the brilliant xkcd.com comic. I'll have time to ponder and time to experiment while I'm stuck on an island. This book will help to pass the time.

Accept the bible? ‘No’
Accept the complete works of Shakespeare? ‘Yes’

Luxury

‘A very large roll of Tyvek®’

This is a versatile, lightweight, waterproof, flexible and durable material (info). Hardly sustainable as it's plastic, but incredibly useful if I was stranded.

I can imagine making shelters, clothing, nets for fishing and all sorts of other things. It will keep me dry and keep me busy.
